HUD National Disaster Resilience Program
In 2014, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) launched the National Disaster Resilience Competition, which allowed states that experienced a presidentially declared major disaster in 2011, 2012 or 2013 to compete for nearly $1 billion in federal funding to help communities rebuild and improve their resilience measures for future disaster events.
In 2016, as a result of LOCD-DR’s winning application to the National Disaster Resilience Competition following Hurricane Isaac, HUD awarded LOCD-DR $92 million to fund the implementation of innovative resilience projects to better prepare communities for future storms and other extreme events.
